TÓMARÚM are today premiering their debut album, Ash in Realms of Stone Icons, in full via Decibel. Across Ash in Realms of Stone Icons’ seven songs TÓMARÚM merge both emotive progressive black metal and blistering technical death metal – with an emphasis on melancholic tremolo picked chords and aggressive pedal-point riffs – over precise and dynamic drumming accentuated by fretless bass, tasteful orchestrations, and a wide variety of vocal styles.

Speaking on the album premiere, Kyle Walburn (guitars, vocals, programming) comments: “Almost five years after the first riffs were written, the day is upon us! We are beyond proud to unleash Ash in Realms of Stone Icons via Decibel in its entirety after thousands of hours of obsessive work. This record has been a passion project of mine since I was 19, and its creation has served as a coping mechanism during some of the most difficult times of my life. Having it complete and out into the world feels like a tremendous weight has been lifted; the ultimate catharsis after years of suffering.”
“The feedback we’ve received thus far has been incredibly humbling, and we cannot wait to see where this album takes us in the years to come. We will be celebrating its release with a string of shows; first up is our album release show at Boggs Social and Supply in Atlanta, where we will be playing the record in its entirety, and then later in the month we will be embarking on a short string of east coast dates with labelmates Dawn of Ouroboros. Plans for more touring are underway, and we are also very deep into the writing process for our next record.”
Formed in 2017, TÓMARÚM – which translates from Icelandic to “empty space” – cover topics such as depression, anxiety, loss, and worthlessness over songs inspired equally by atmospheric black metal and technical death metal. The band’s 2020 debut EP, Wounds Ever Expanding, quickly generated an online buzz and garnered praise for its effective fusion of atmospheric black metal and technical death metal – after which Kyle Walburn and Brandon Iacovella (guitars, vocals, contrabass) set to work on Ash in Realms of Stone Icons.
The seven tracks on Ash in Realms of Stone Icons feature session bass from Arran McSporran of VIRVUM, session drums from Spencer Moore of INFERI, and a beautiful cover painted by Mariusz Lewandowski, and display TÓMARÚM
at their sharpest and most vulnerable to date with Ash in Realms of Stone Icons being the ultimate declaration of intent from a band with their sights set on breaking barriers.
