Photo: Dew-Scented 2012 by Ester Segarra / www.e-segarra.com

German thrashers DEW-SCENTED — whose new album, “Icarus,” will be released this summer — have unveiled their new lineup. The current roster for 2012 features (l to r):

Rory Hansen – Guitars
Marvin Vriesde – Guitars
Leif Jensen – Vocals
Joost van der Graaf – Bass
Koen Herfst – Drums

Jensen made the following statement in regards to the changes: “I’m proud to present a new chapter in the history of DEW-SCENTED! By early 2011, after four weeks of European touring with Nile, it showed clearly that our previous ‘Invocation’ lineup was collapsing, and one member after another left the fold for different reasons. We decided to play some final festival shows together in the summer, and after Party.San and Brutal Assault, DEW-SCENTED went away from the spotlight in order to re-group and regain new focus. And here we finally are again, back with an improved lineup and a really strong new album!”

The new lineup reintroduces Marvin Vriesde (Severe Torture, ex-Blo Torch) as the lead guitarist as well as the key songwriter. Vriesde has been involved with DEW-SCENTED — whether as a live session guitarist as well as a studio guitarist – since the band’s first major tour in 1996. “I’m truly happy to have finally managed to team up with my buddy Marvin in DEW-SCENTED,” Jensen says. “Being one of my closest friends in music and the band’s ‘longest running companion,’ it’s amazing to be able to finally put the band’s musical present and future in his hands. I can’t wait for everyone to hear the great results we achieved!”

Vriesde commented: “DEW-SCENTED and I have a long history together. I helped the band out on several occasions in the past — studio as well as live situations — so when Leif suggested joining forces for real on the new record, I was thrilled! This allowed me to write DEW-SCENTED songs that I would really want to hear from the band, from a fan’s point of view.”

Rounding out the lineup are drummer Koen Herfst (I Chaos, Epica), bassist Joost van der Graaf (I Chaos, ex-Creepmime) and guitarist Rory Hansen. According to Vriesde, “The writing process went really smooth and focused. Leif and I were bouncing all these awesome ideas around. We realized that these songs deserved to be recorded in the best form possible. That’s why I asked a good local friend of mine, Koen, to handle the drums. In turn, he brought in Joost to handle the bass duties for the album. Both are amazing musicians, and that’s what sets ‘Icarus’ apart for me. I think everyone brought something extra to the table, which really took the album to a higher level. ‘Icarus’ is a really heavy album, but it somehow has a darker feel to it in comparison to the previous DEW-SCENTED albums.”

DEW-SCENTED will debut their new lineup on July 20th at Germany’s Metalsplash Festival and embark on a short tour alongside Six Feet Under soon after. Full tour dates are listed below. Additionally, the band has released another online teaser for “Icarus” via Germany’s Metal4. The video provides a sneak peek of the recording process and showcases some new music from “Icarus.” Check it out below:

The complete “Weightless” video, which will premiere in the near future, was directed by Scott Hansen, who also directed the band’s groundbreaking video for “CAFO,” a song from their 2009 self-titled debut. That clip has now been viewed on YouTube more than 2.5 million times.

Filthy black metallers MUTILATION RITES will be blasting the speakers, and most likely some ear drums, during their record release show at Saint Vitus Bar in their hometown Brooklyn, NY on June 6. The performance, which will be presented by Signature Riff, will see the band playing alongside Horna and Kommandant in support of their new release “Empyrean,” which is available now for pre-order in advance of its May 22 release date.
MUTILATION RITES formed in the winter of 2009 in New York City and consists of Michael Dimmit (guitar), Justin Ennis (Drums, ex-Tombs), George Paul (Guitar/vocals), and Ryan Jones (bass, Today Is the Day). The DIY band has demonstrated its strong work ethic by relentlessly touring throughout the underground circuit for the past year, including playing alongside bands such as Alcest, Hull, Black Tusk, Nachtmystium, and more.

Norwegian Black Metal band 1349 have announced that in addition to their upcoming dates on the “Serpent Sermon” tour alongside blackened doom labelmates WITHERED and Swedish black metallers Marduk, they will be performing a one-off headlining show on June 18th at the Glasshouse in Pomona, CA, where they will be supported by THE FUNERAL PYRE. Tickets for this show are available HERE.

1349’s upcoming tour will not only be the band’s first time back in North America since 2010, when they supported the likes of Cannibal Corpse and Triptykon, but it will also mark the band’s first-ever appearance in Puerto Rico. The band recently released a sneak peak into the fierce inferno of Aural Hellfire that they are known to produce on stage. The footage — which was compiled by friend of the band, S A Destroyer — consists of the band’s live performance last September at The Rockefeller in Oslo, Norway.

California’s classic metal group HOLY GRAIL, who recently announced a tour with Valient Thorr, have just confirmed a slew of new dates for the trek, which kicks off May 30. All shows that have been announced so far can be found below.

HOLY GRAIL are currently finishing up a nationwide tour with melodic metal act Dragonforce, as well as fellow Californian metallers Huntress – whose guitarist Blake Meahl is actually the brother of HOLY GRAIL drummer Tyler Meahl. Tyler commented on touring with his brother: ”It’s like that time our family went on vacation to the Grand Canyon, but this time there’s less sex.” After the Dragonforce tour wraps up on May 11, the band will finish recording their sophomore album, due out this fall. Their debut release, 2010′s critically acclaimed “Crisis in Utopia,” was hailed by Revolver as “the catchiest album of pure heavy metal since Maiden, Priest and Dio ruled the early ‘80s.”

Now available for your diabolical listening pleasures are the live studio sessions from Austin, TX rockers ANCIENT VVISDOM, which were broadcast on BBC Radio 1’s “The Rock Show with Daniel P Carter” this past Monday. The show, which is available HERE until May 7th, features four live performances of four songs, three of which are from the band’s just-reissued debut, “A Godlike Inferno.”

The first two songs, “The Opposition” and “Devil’s Brain,” air around the 35-minute mark following a brief introduction and review by host Daniel P. Carter. In hour #2, Carter premieres a new ANCIENT VVISDOM track, “Last Man on Earth,” as well as “World of Flesh” off their current album.

The band — who have just completed a round of touring in the UK — are nominated in the “Best Underground Band” category of this year’s Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards. The ceremony will take place at London’s Indigo2 on Monday June 11th.

Called “diabolical folk-metal” by Classic Rock and “acoustically driven occult rock where each song is a spell” by Metal Hammer, ANCIENT VVISDOM earned rave reviews earlier this year on tour with Ghost and performed at the Inferno (Norway) and Roadburn (Holland) festivals last month. Their newest music video for track “Children Of The Wasteland” can be viewed HERE.

BAND BEGINS WRITING PROCESS FOR NEW ALBUM

Maine progressive tech-metallers LAST CHANCE TO REASON have confirmed their participation in the upcoming “Shockwave Festival” tour. Vocalist Michael Lessard commented, “We’re very excited to announce that we are part of the Shockwave tour this summer! There are so many great bands involved with this tour, and being able to share the stage with all of them is an amazing opportunity for us. We look forward to bringing our brand of progressive metal to these crowds.”

The tour – which begins in Seattle, WA on July 6th – will feature LAST CHANCE TO REASON alongside the likes of Revocation, Misery Index, Cattle Decapitation, Voivod, Fear Factory and more. Dates are listed below, while general admission and VIP tickets will go on sale Wednesday, May 5th at 10 AM local time at this location: http://tixx1.artistarena.com/shockwavefestival/

Over the past year, LAST CHANCE TO REASON has been relentlessly touring alongside the likes of Animals As Leaders, Obscura, Protest the Hero, The Faceless, and more in support of their PROSTHETIC debut, “Level 2,” which Outburn praised for its “climatic passages” and “stirring ethereality.” The group has also begun working on their newest album, says drummer Evan Sammons: “The writing process for our next album is officially underway, and it’s going awesome. Everyone is coming up with a ton of riffs and arrangements, and we’re more confident and pleased with these early steps than we ever have before. We’ve really pushed our chops over the past year and toured with a lot of inspiring bands, so the ideas are just pouring out. The lyrics and conceptual basis of the album are also already looking super-promising. In fact, we already have more lyrics to draw from than we had on ‘Level 2.’ Expect more news as we make progress!”

German thrash metallers DEW-SCENTED have set “ICARUS” as the title for their new album, due out this summer. The brilliant and enticing album artwork was designed by Björn Goosses (Killustrations). Feast your eyes below!

“ICARUS” is due out in late July and will be the band’s second North American release with PROSTHETIC RECORDS, following 2010′s acclaimed “Invocation.” Vocalist Leif Jensen described the album’s main theme as “a modern-times, very apocalyptic adaption of elements of the Icarus myth, using a lot of its symbolism while interlinking with several other personal or observant subjects in true DEW-SCENTED fashion.” While the album — recorded at Soundlodge Studio and produced by Jörg Uken (Nightfall, Suicidal Angels, God Dethroned) — is not quite a concept album per se, Jensen says “Icarus” “has a pretty coherent lyrical flow, and that helps to enhance and also to intentionally enlarge the atmosphere and vibe created by the music.”

DEW-SCENTED has also presented a sneak-peek video from the studio, which you can view below:

Founded in 1992, DEW-SCENTED have released eight albums to date and have toured with a who’s who of modern heavy metal, including Morbid Angel, Arch Enemy, Death, Deicide, Kreator, Nile, Amon Amarth, Cannibal Corpse, Napalm Death, Behemoth and many more. Metallic hardcore punk act THE GREENERY will be appearing on tour in a town near you! The Long Beach natives, who just performed at the New England Metalfest and are currently touring alongside IWABO, will be joining hardcore acts This Is Hell and Xerxes on select dates of the “GREAT AMERICAN THRASH MMXII” tour sponsored by LAMBGOAT. THE GREENERY will hop on tour June 20th in Denton, TX and continue through the July 6th Seattle stop. The band will be out in support of their acclaimed 2011 Prosthetic debut “Spit & Argue.”

The band commented, “We are very excited about our upcoming run with This Is Hell. Such a killer band with some wild guys…should be dangerous!”

The group also updated us on their current tour: “This tour with Iwrestledabearonce, Molotov Solution and Glass Cloud is rad. Sweet bands, good people, overall just mega fun.” Dates for both tours can be found below.

SCION A/V recently posted an interview with two of the band’s members, which also includes footage of the group performing live at Prosthetic’s January label showcase at the legendary Roxy Theatre in Hollywood. Check it out here:

“Spit & Argue” was praised by Revolver as “a derelict blend of metal aggression, punk-rock scab-picking and sunburnt Cali sleaze,” while Outburn hailed the group’s “furious punk edge” in a 9/10 review. Since the album’s release, the group has toured consistently alongside the likes of Such Gold, Ringworm, Cruel Hand, Vanna, Kids Like Us and more. A music video for the title track can be viewed here:

Occult rock merchants ANCIENT VVISDOM today unveil their latest video
for “Children Of The Wasteland” to North American masses via Metal
Injection. The tune comes off the band’s A Godlike Inferno
full-length, reissued via Prosthetic Records on April 24. Peep the
sobering visuals at THIS LOCATION.

Recorded at The Bubble in Austin with engineer/co-producer Jason Buntz
with additional instrumentation including the use of a bowed stand-up
bass, machete/bamboo percussion and synths, A Godlike Inferno’s
serpentine hymns continue to be embraced by critics and cultists
alike. Terrorizer crowned the record “a haunting, riveting slab of
acoustic-driven, Satan-loving mastery,” Metal Hammer championed the
band for their “acoustically driven occult rock where each song is a
spell,” while Metal Underground commended their “rich melodies and
memorable chorus lines.” This Is Not A Scene agreed noting : “A
Godlike Inferno strikes an engaging balance between light and dark,
bringing the shadows into the sun without striking down those it want
to impress, and impress it does, ” while Blistering added: “ A Godlike
Inferno is dark…like the pits of the devil’s soul… Get this.”

Nominated for Best Underground Band at this year’s Metal Hammer Golden
Gods Awards, the Austin, Texas-based diabolic folk metal collective
are currently wrapping up a European tour, which marked their first
time back on the road since supporting Ghost on an uber successful
national jaunt earlier this year.

Greek symphonic death metal quartet SEPTICFLESH — whose eight albums and performances on tour alongside the likes of Cradle of Filth, Amon Amarth, Gorgoroth, Satyricon, Children of Bodom and more have earned the group international acclaim — have signed a new North American deal with Prosthetic for album #9. This summer, the band will take part in the Metalfest Open Air European festival tour alongside the likes of Megadeth, Kreator, Behemoth and more.

SEPTICFLESH brings a unique sound to the table, a combination of orchestral and classical influences mixed in with death metal riffs and brutal vocals. The end result is a hauntingly captivating aural experience that has revolutionized the term “Dreamy Death Metal”.Formed in 1990 by current members Sotiris Anunnaki V. (guitar, clean vocals), Seth Siro Anton (bass, vocals), and Christos Antoniou (guitars, orchestra) they released their first EP, “Temples of the Lost Race” —which was rerecorded and released as part of their fourth album “A Falling Temple”—and were quickly picked up by Holy Records. They released their first full length album “Mystic Places o f Dawn” which caught the attention of Nuclear Blast, who featured the track “Return To Carthage” –from their sophomore album, “Esoptron”– on the label’s ‘Death is Only The Beginning III” compilation.

Furthering their talents and focusing in on their neoclassical influences, female soprano vocalist, Natalie Rassoulis, was then added to the lineup for their next two releases, “Ophidian Wheel” and “A Fallen Temple”. Catching the attention of legendary producer Fredrik Nordstrom (Opeth, At the Gates), they headed to Swedish Studio Fredman to create their fifth release, “Revolution DNA”. This release gained the band much popularity, attracting fans with its haunting imagery, intense guitar melodies, and theatrical vocals.

The band parted ways with Holy Records and signed to Hammerheart (now known as Karmageddon Media) for their release of “Sumerian Daemons” in 2003. At this point the band decided to split up and work on different and pre-existing projects. Christos focused his work on Chaostar, while Sortiris started a solo project under the name of Aenaos. Although after four years, the band reunited for the 2007 Metal Healing Festival in Greece, with Fotis Bernardo (ex- Nightrage) completing the line-up on drums. The band soon signed a new deal with French label Season of Mist and released their seventh album “Communion” in March of 2008. The album was arranged by gothic maestro Christos Antoniou, and featured a full person orchestra and choir.

Their latest critically acclaimed album “The Great Mass” produced by Peter Tägtgren ( Hypocrisy,PAIN) was released in April 2011 and once again featured a full orchestra. Not only did the album captivate audiences with its eerily haunting orchestral tones and brutal vocals, but succeeded at making several “Album of the Year” lists from many notable publications worldwide.

Band Continues Pillaging Stages Across The U.S.

Today Ohio metal goliaths SKELETONWITCH are streaming “new” track, “Tragedy of Days” at Prosthetic Records’official bandcamp page. Never formally released on record in the States, the tune was recorded during the Forever Abomination sessions with producer Matt Hyde and appeared on the Decibel Magazine Flexi-Disc series (Oct. 2011 issue) as well as the Japanese edition of Forever Abomination.

Comments guitarist Scott Hedrick of the track: “’Tragedy of Days’ was an epic instrumental by [guitarist] Nate [Garnette]‘s former band Serkesoron. They disbanded after the untimely passing of Serkesoron’s frontman, Thom Wright. Shortly after the band called it quits, SKELETONWITCH was born. We re-recorded the track and Chance [Garnette] addedvocals as a tribute to Thom, immortalizing him in song.”

Check out “Tragedy of Days” at THIS LOCATION.

Matt Garstka to fill in for departing drummer Navene Koperweis

Progressive instrumental pioneers ANIMALS AS LEADERS — whose sophomore album, “Weightless,” cracked the Billboard Top 100 last fall — return to the road next weekend, when they will kick off their first European headlining tour in Tilburg, Holland on April 1. Their headlining dates will surround a week’s worth of UK shows alongside Meshuggah, a band AAL mastermind Tosin Abasi cites as a major influence. Immediately after returning from Europe, ANIMALS AS LEADERS will embark on its first North American tour of the year as they support Thrice on that group’s farewell tour. A complete list of dates is below.

These upcoming shows will not include Navene Koperweis, who has decided to leave the group. Says Koperweis, “Tosin and Javier (Reyes, guitar) are the two most generous, caring and understanding individuals I’ve ever met and I look forward to a lifetime of friendship with the both of them. Over the past decade I have done nothing but music. Recording, writing, playing, practicing, touring and producing. It’s taken me beyond what I could have dreamt of as a kid when I started. My new goals extend beyond the drum kit and I’m the type of person who will constantly chase new dreams. You’ll be seeing a lot more of me soon.”

Abasi says, “I’ve shared some of my most memorable musical experiences to date with Navene and truly consider him a brother. I commend him for following his own path in life, even if that means i’ll no longer be sharing the stage with him. I feel blessed to have had the pleasure of working together and creating a lifelong friendship.”

Filling in for Koperweis on ANIMALS AS LEADERS’ European and North American tours will be the Boston-based Matt Garstka, a Berklee alumnus who has previously played with the groups Gokh Bi System, Two Man Trio and Verse The Fire. Some video footage of Garstka can be viewed here.

“We see nothing but great potential with Matt, and look forward to performing with him on the upcoming tours,” Abasi says. “We feel very excited for the future of AAL, which is brighter than ever. I’m beyond excited for our fans to hear some of the new music we already have brewing for the future!”

ANIMALS AS LEADERS groundbreaking self-titled 2009 debut was praised by Steve Vai as “the future of heavy, creative virtuoso guitar.” The group has toured alongside the likes of BTBAM, Underoath and The Dillinger Escape Plan and many more, and their music video for “CAFO” has accumulated more than 2 million views on YouTube. “Weightless,” the group’s second album, was produced by Koperweis and mixed by Reyes.

US Tour Kicks Off Today; European Dates Announced

Today Ohio metal titans SKELETONWITCH unveil their brand new video for
“The Infernal Resurrection.” The song comes off latest album, Forever
Abomination which cracked the Billboard Top 200, as well as Decibel’s
Top 40 of 2011 and finds the band doing what they do best: slaying
ears in the live arena. To view the video, head over to This Location.

Like Satan himself set loose in the hallowed halls of heavy metal,
these Athens-based headbangers careen wildly through the music’s
history, gleefully destroying and setting flame to every genre along
the way, only stopping at the forefront of today’s metal scene to look
back and watch that fucker burn — and then piss on the flames. No
other band has tapped into the fire, fury, and frost of all things
metal like SKELETONWITCH. Released last October through Prosthetic
Records, Forever Abomination continues to raise eyebrows with its
relentless, fuck-all attack. In an 8/10 rating of the record, Decibel
Magazine named SKELETONWITCH, “one of the most likeable bands in
metal,” Terrorizer dubbed Forever Abomination a “masterclass in modern
metal,” Revolver noted its “bad-ass thrash attack,” while Pitchfork
championed the offering calling it “exciting, skilled, fist-pumping,
true-to-life stuff…”

SKELETONWITCH return to the road today beginning with a warm-up show
in Cleveland before joining forces with The Black Dahlia Murder, Nile

The Italian death metal squadron will release their anticipated
Sedition full-length to North American masses on March 27 (April 2 in
the UK and April 6 in mainland Europe) via their new label home,
Prosthetic Records. The album was recorded at Cellar Studio in Rome
with producer Stefano Morabito and is the follow up to 2010’s
acclaimed Paradogma (Unique Leader), which Decibel described as “a
bludgeoning slab of death metal in the Morbid Angel/Immolation
vein…surprisingly catchy machine-gun riffs, blasting drum patterns and
the occasional nod to grindcore brethren Nasum and Napalm Death.
Gleefully damned… planet-cracking intensity.”

HOUR OF PENANCE will hit North American shores for the first time ever
supporting The Black Dahlia Murder, Nile and Skeletonwitch. The trek
will include a stop at New England Metal Fest.
